Addiction is not the Root of the Problem.
What if we took an Alcoholic or Drug Addict and put them on a deserted island, somewhere far away from all drugs and alcohol and left them for a year. When we brought them back into society they should be cured, right?
The answer is NO.. they would probably be worse, sure they did not have any Alcohol or Drugs for a year but they still have the same underlying issues they had before they left. If this type of treatment really worked than the Jail system would be the ultimate cure all for drug addiction, but we all know it is not.
Underlying issues are what really needs to be addressed in order to help the addict stop his or her addictive behavior. The user needs to overcome his or her avoidance of uncomfortable feeling, things and situations in order to stop abusing Drugs and Alcohol.
